When to use this converter

You are reading a weather forecast from a country that uses a different temperature scale and want to understand the actual conditions before travelling.

A recipe gives an oven temperature in Fahrenheit but your oven dial is marked in Celsius, or the other way around.

You are studying chemistry or physics and need to convert between Celsius and Kelvin for thermodynamic calculations.

A product manual, storage guideline, or shipping restriction specifies a temperature range in a scale different from what your thermometer displays.

Common problems and fixes

The Fahrenheit result looks unexpectedly high or low.

Fahrenheit and Celsius do not share the same zero point, so the conversion is not a simple multiplication. The formula is °F = (°C × 9/5) + 32. A typical room temperature of 20 °C equals 68 °F, not 36 °F.

The Kelvin result is negative.

Kelvin cannot be negative — it starts at absolute zero (0 K = −273.15 °C). If you see a negative Kelvin result, the input Celsius or Fahrenheit value is below absolute zero, which is not physically possible under normal conditions. Check that the source value and unit are correct.

I need to convert Rankine but it is not available.

Rankine is not included in this converter. As a reference, Rankine equals Kelvin × 9/5. Convert to Kelvin first using this tool, then apply that multiplication.
