Privacy policy

Overview

VeraTools (veratools.io) is operated by the VeraTools team based in Berlin, Germany. This privacy policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and what rights you have over it.

We designed this site with privacy in mind from the start. The default is browser-side processing — your files and data stay on your device. Where server processing is needed, we handle it minimally and securely.

What data we collect

We collect minimal data to keep the site running. This includes:

• Standard server logs (IP address, browser type, page visited, timestamp) — kept for up to 30 days for security and debugging
• Anonymous usage analytics (which pages are visited, approximate country) — no personally identifiable information
• Contact form submissions — name, email, and message — only when you voluntarily submit them

We do not collect, store, or sell personal data for advertising or marketing purposes.

Browser-side processing

The majority of tools on VeraTools — including most image tools, most developer tools, and all text tools — process your data entirely within your browser using JavaScript. This means:

• Your files never leave your device
• No server receives your data
• Nothing is logged or stored in relation to your tool usage

Tool pages indicate when browser-side processing is used. This is the default for all tools where it is technically feasible.

Server-side processing

Some conversions — particularly HEIC image conversion on browsers that do not support it natively — fall back to server processing. When server processing occurs:

• Files are transmitted over HTTPS
• Files are processed immediately and not stored after conversion
• Files are not used for any purpose other than completing the requested conversion
• Processed files are deleted from server memory within minutes

Cookies and consent management

VeraTools uses cookies for the following purposes:

• A session cookie to remember your cookie consent preference
• Analytics cookies (if you consent) to understand aggregate site usage
• Advertising cookies set by Google AdSense (if you consent) to serve relevant ads

Consent is managed through Cloudflare Zaraz, a privacy-focused consent management platform. Advertising and analytics cookies are only set after you give consent. You can manage or withdraw your consent at any time by clicking the Cookie settings link in the footer of any page.

Analytics

We use privacy-respecting analytics to understand how the site is used. Analytics data is aggregated and anonymous — we can see that 1,000 people visited the JSON formatter page, but not who those people are or what they typed into it.

Analytics data is used only to improve the site — to understand which tools are most useful, which guides get read, and where the site could be better.

Advertising

VeraTools uses Google AdSense to display ads. Google AdSense uses cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site and other sites on the web.

Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to veratools.io and other sites. You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings.

Other third-party services

VeraTools loads fonts from Google Fonts. Google's privacy policy applies to that request.

This site uses Cloudflare Zaraz to manage third-party tools and consent. Cloudflare Zaraz acts as a server-side proxy, which means third-party scripts — including analytics and advertising — are loaded and controlled through Cloudflare rather than directly in your browser. Cloudflare's privacy policy applies to this processing.

No other third-party services receive your data in connection with normal tool usage. We do not integrate social media trackers or third-party marketing services beyond what is described in this policy.

Your rights (GDPR)

If you are based in the European Union, you have rights under GDPR including the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you. Since we collect very little personal data, this primarily applies to contact form submissions.
