Download each converted AVIF file individually, or use Download all after multiple files finish.
PNG and AVIF - what's the difference?
AVIF: Choose AVIF when the destination is a modern website and file size is the priority. WebP: Choose WebP instead if you need slightly broader compatibility than AVIF currently provides.
Why People Convert PNG to AVIF
Convert PNG files to AVIF online for free. AVIF produces files significantly smaller than PNG while maintaining good visual quality, making it one of the best delivery formats for web images.
PNG is lossless and large — it stores every pixel without compression loss, which is great for editing but produces large files for web delivery. AVIF uses advanced compression to deliver much smaller files at comparable visual quality, typically 50–70% smaller than PNG for the same image.
This conversion is most useful in web performance workflows: keep the PNG as the source and archive, use AVIF as the delivery format. The smaller file size directly improves page load speed, reduces bandwidth costs, and helps Core Web Vitals scores.
Common situations where this helps
Large PNG screenshots, graphics, or illustrations need to be served on a website with smaller file sizes.
PNG assets in a web project need to be converted to AVIF as part of an image optimisation step before deployment.
A CMS or image CDN accepts AVIF and you want to upload a more efficient version of existing PNG assets.
A PNG logo or illustration with transparency needs a modern delivery format that supports transparency with better compression.
Common problems and fixes
The AVIF output does not preserve transparency.
AVIF supports transparency. If the transparent background is being lost, check the converter settings — it should carry the PNG alpha channel through to the AVIF output.
The AVIF looks blurry or has artefacts compared to the PNG.
AVIF uses lossy compression by default. At lower quality settings, fine detail and sharp edges may show artefacts. Increase the quality setting for sharper output, at the cost of a slightly larger file.
Some platforms or browsers do not display the AVIF.
AVIF is supported in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari 16+. For older browsers or platforms without AVIF support, use WebP or keep the PNG as a fallback.
